Student Run Services
Student Run Services are student groups that come together to provide services for other students and the local Cardiff Community.
The students involved in these societies usually volunteer their own time to run projects, events or services and are always looking for new members to join.
RAG
RAG stands for Raising and Giving, which is exactly what the volunteers at Cardiff RAG do.
But RAG is not just about raising money for charity. It is one of the most active and friendly societies in Cardiff’s Students’ Union and part of a national student organisation dedicated to fundraising for local and national charities.
It aims to give students the opportunity to give something back to the community, and the wider world.

ShAg Society
ShAg is Cardiff’s Sexual Health Awareness Group run by students on a voluntary basis.
Whether in the form of a friendly ear about relationship worries, pregnancy scares, information on STDs, or providing free condoms – you can be sure that someone is on hand to help.
Their drop in centre in the Union is open on a Wednesday and Friday afternoon from 12 - 4pm, providing:
- condoms
- leaflets
- friendly advice to anyone that needs it
There is also a bucket outside the ShAg Office for discrete collection of condoms.

Nightline
Confidential, non-judgemental listening, information and referral service, run by students for students.
They are open from 8pm til 8am as many nights as they can, offering a phone line and a drop-in service when other facilities in the university are not available.
You don’t have to be at crisis point to ring them – sometimes we all need to pour our troubles out to a friendly listening ear. They have a huge variety of information in the nightline house too, so if you need to know anything regarding the university or the Cardiff area, they’ll do their best to help. Fancy a pizza at midnight? Nightline will know where to send you.
