Cardiff Students’ Union is a democratic, representative, membership organisation. This means that your Union strives to represent the student population, and operates independently of the University according to your needs. Your Union is run by students, for students and it is our mission to put students first.
By enrolling in Cardiff University, you automatically become a member of the Students’ Union. This means that all the services at the Students’ Union are open to you, that you have the right to vote and make your voice heard, and that you have a ready made support system at your finger tips.
How does the democratic process work?
Students
Every student at Cardiff University is a member of the Students’ Union and has the right to vote in Union elections.
Elections
The elections take place so that students can vote for fellow students to represent them and to run the Students’ Union as the Executive Committee.
Executive Committee
This consists of 8 full-time officers and 8 part-time officers who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the Union.
Academic Council, Societies Council and Athletic Union Council
These 3 different councils meet every month to discuss relevant issues and represent students in their respective areas.
Student Council
Student representatives meet fortnightly to direct Union policy and manage Union affairs.
AGM – Annual General Meeting
This meeting forms the sovereign body of the Union where students can make fundamental changes to the Union’s Constitution. It is an annual opportunity for the Union to report on the past year’s progress and to discuss future plans.
