Meet Your Elected Officers
Marcus Coates-Walker
President
As President I have responsibility for how the Union operates, how the elected officer team works together and ensuring that your time at Cardiff is the best it possibly can be.
You are all integral to what the Union does and therefore please feel free to come and talk to any of us. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible over the next year.
Nicholas Matthew
Finance & Commercial Officer
My name is Nick, and I am the Finance & Commercial officer. My job role encompasses a broad range of things, but it fundamentally deals with the money! Other than ensuring that the Union's block grant is distributed accordingly, I also work closely alongside senior management to boost the Union's retail, events and service sectors. As well as the commercial perspective, my job also involves a close working relationship with our part time environmental and ethical officer to ensure that our Union moves forward in a green and environmentally friendly manner. If you have any questions about anything, come and find me on the third floor of the Students' Union.
Harry Newman
Societies Officer
Hi, I'm Harry, your Societies Officer. The Guild of Societies has over 150 for you to get involved in ranging from the serious to the fun and it's my job to support them and help find the right one for you! On top of this I organise big events in the Union such as Go Global, celebrating equality and diversity. I have some big ideas for this year, come and find me on the 3rd floor and find out what your elected officers can do for you.
Christopher Davies
Welfare & Communications Officer
Hi, I'm Chris and I am your new Welfare and Communications Officer. My role is to actively promote and represent you as students and help you get the most out of your student experience by looking out for your welfare. The union has excellent services that are here to support you and I intend to help you, our members, benefit from these throughout the year. I’ve got some great ideas for communicating what your Union can do for you and I hope that by working with you as students, the council, the University and others I can make this year your best at Cardiff.
If you’re having any welfare problems come and see me on the third floor, and we’ll get it sorted for you; that’s what your elected officers are here for.
Oliver Smith
Head of Student Media and gair rhydd Editor
Hey, I’m Olly, and I’m the new Head of Student Media and gair rhydd editor. My role is to run Cardiff’s award-winning student media including the weekly student newspaper gair rhydd, our bi-monthly magazine Quench, Xpress Radio and Cardiff Union TV. I’ve worked in student media for the last two years at Cardiff and I’m looking forward to delivering brilliant content from all areas of student media. It’s a great time to get involved with student media, so come along to our Media Recruitment Party just after Fresher’s Week, or just pop up to our office on the fourth floor to meet the team!
Sam Reid
Academic & University Affairs Officer
Hi, I’m Sam and I represent Cardiff students on academic issues and help to maintain strong relationships with the University.
Sarah Halpin
Healthcare Integration Officer
Hey guys, I'm Sarah, your Healthcare Integration Officer. We have the 3rd largest teaching hospital in the UK, so it’s no surprise that we have around 5,000 healthcare students here in Cardiff!
My job is to make sure that the students at the Heath park campus have the best experience possible with the students down at Park Place. Whether this is through academic, welfare or social representation, I’m here to listen to your thoughts and ideas.
I'm really excited about the year ahead so come and get involved by dropping into the 3rd floor of the Union and meeting me and the rest of the team.
Ollie Devon
Athletic Union President
Hey I'm Ollie and I'm your Athletic Union President! I am responsible for the development and provision of over 60 AU Clubs and a massive IMG program. I am also responsible for a whole range of events throughout the year, most notably Varsity! There is so much to get involved with as a member of the AU, so make sure you join a club and make the most of what sport at Cardiff has to offer. Come up to my office on the Third Floor if you need help, advice, or just fancy a chat about all things sports!
